Legacy Leaders

These former members of our team are no longer actively working with us, but they played significant parts in building UGArden into the place it is today.

Professor David Berle (he/him) is the faculty founder of UGArden and former director. A part of the team from the very beginning, he has taught classes, facilitated clubs, led research projects, and served the greater community with passion and creativity over the course of his time with UGArden. Professor Berle retired in the summer of 2023.

JoHannah Biang (she/her) was UGArden’s Farm Manager for over 10 years, and her PhD research focused on the impact of UGArden’s internship program. As a fearless farm leader, JoHannah educated and inspired thousands of students during her time at UGArden. She now works as Horticulture Manager at Hills and Dales Estates in LaGrange.

Noelle Joy (she/her) helped grow the UGArden Herb program from a simple bed of plants into a unique brand with a multitude of exceptional products. Noelle is now teaching Herbs, Spices, and Medicinal Plants at UGA while she continues working on her PhD.
